Meet Ishana Allen! The Newest Resilient Nurse!
So as you may know, I am nursing student, working towards my goal of becoming an Advanced Practical Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) of Rheumatology & Alternative Medicine. There have been many obstacles during my journey, however there are many people that have helped me along the way. Nursing school is NO joke! Believe me, but it can be done! At the end of the day, it is NOT about “when” you finish, BUT “how”.
I would not have been able to stand where I am today, or be given the opportunity, without ONE of my nursing mentors; the person who helped me get into St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing, Mrs. Ishana Allen! Ishana and I graduated from the same high school, and grew up in the same neighborhood. She helped me get into school, and has been a huge help ever since. Ishana Graduated from St. Francis with her associates degree, and started working at St. Francis immediately after graduating. She then completed her BSN and MSN, at Grand Canyon University.
Have you ever heard of the Resilient Nurse? Probably not? I started following “The Resilient Nurse” on social media, via instagram. It was started by a Registered Nurse, Monique Doughty, also known as Nurse Mo. Nurse Mo grew up in South Phildaelphia, but later became a Travel Nurse; where she used social media to share her experiences. Her stories and experiences inspired many nurses AND nursing students across the country. She started her brand “The Resilient Nurse” composed of Nurses all over the country, whom mentor and inspire, new and upcoming nurses, and nursing students. Their motto is “We Help 🙌 , Heal💊💉😇 , & HAVE FUN!! 😊Keep calm and be Resilient!”
Recently Ishana became an ambassador for The Resilient Nurse, read Ishana’s Story & what tips she gives to current nursing students below!
Hey my name is Ishana Allen. I’ve been a Cardiac Registered Nurse for 6 years. I obtained my BSN and MSN from Grand Canyon University. It’s a private Christian university that is flexible with full time working individuals.
I’ve always known that the nursing profession was my calling. I went through obstacles to get there but with my faith in the Lord and support of my family, I was able to make it through.
I encourage nursing students to focus as much as possible, review lecture notes at least one hour a day so you don’t have to cram when the exam comes, ask for help when you need it, and keep going! You can do it!!!! My future goals include getting a new job in nursing informatics which I received my MSN in. Incorporating nursing and technology is the new and innovative and it amazes me to see how much we as nurses play a major role in the technology aspect of the health care profession.
I am so excited to be apart of the Resilient Nurse Ambassador Program because I want nurses and student nurses to see that the nursing profession has so many avenues one can take and bedside is not the only job an nurse can have. Outside of nursing I enjoyed caring for my son and husband, traveling, dancing, oh and let’s not forget shopping lol💞
“Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”
